I enjoyed this puzzle but won't bother with the endgame as I have no interest in the pastime required. It has a fun factor akin to going to the dentist or painting the gate as far as I'm concerned. Bonne chance to those who complete.

Have them both now, thanks. I'd tried 24d earlier - it's not in the Chambers CD version on my PC but I've just looked and it IS in the Chambers App on my phone. Ah well, all good now. Thanks to all.

Nice puzzle, spoiled very slightly by the fact that the answer to the question doesnt quite work due to the extra letter. Took me a while to figure out what to put in the barred off cell, being only a very occasional dabbler in the game, but all makes perfect sense when you see it.

Maybe I'm missing something but i don't see the potential ambiguity that others have referred to here and elsewhere. Seems like there's only one way of following the instructions to me.
