Apologies to anyone who was going to write the greatest clue ever in the next 10 minutes, but I need to wrap this up as I need to pack and get the house ready for a trip tomorrow.

As usual too many good ones to discuss in detail so straight to the hono(u)rable mentions:

I'm a sucker for a good subtractive anagram and I liked both jono 5/25 and mattrom 24. Kudos to mattrom 26 for forcing me to learn more about 1920s Croatian politics than I really wanted to know. (Interestingly, or not, Stjepan Radic was assassinated by a member of the Serbian People's Radical Party.)

mattrom also had a nice charade at 7 and I liked paradigmshifter's hidden reverse at 6. I was not surprised, but did like the mathy direction that mathprof went at 10.

But the winner is patrich@16:

Root spoke about hundred (7)

Much as I hate to encourage cricket clues, this one has a concise, smooth surface and wonderful misdirection from both "root" and "spoke". I assumed the hundred referred to hitting a "century" but some googling indicated that there is a new cricket format called The Hundred. Not sure which one pat had in mind but either works for me. And I am deeply concerned that I knew who Joe Root is.

Nice one, patrich. To the prizes:

Congrats patrich, though I preferred yours @23 - I'm sorry, apart from the definition and the C, I'm not getting the winner!
Thanks buddy.
