Thanks to Brendan I have got halfway with this and have managed to highlight the location in yellow. Judging from the picture of the original and the fact that I have shaded only 22 cells thus far (not counting the ones highlighted) I am missing something but can't see what. I also need to work on the curve needed through 4 cells.

I now have all 43 shaded cells - I wasn't looking far enough down the grid - and the highlighted yellow cells but a pointer to the curved line would be appreciated.

As always I was completely blind when looking for a word in the grid. I have it mow. Totally agree Brendan about the excellence of the puzzle and the final grid.

Thanks AP, glad you got it all sorted. I went down the same route as you in that I could see what letters were meant to be coloured in the top half but not the bottom. It took a long trawl of Google to figure it out, along with the item at the front, not helped by the fact that 2 guys collaborated again some years later.

That took me longer than it should, particularly as my uncle was for many years the Lord Mayor there. But my shortcomings aside, this was a tour de force of setting and it does give a very satisfying result. Thank you, Vismut. A great job!

Please could someone take pity on me and give me a shove in the right direction - I’m so close to finishing it but I seem to be having a pink fluff moment!

I have completed grid, got the instruction which led to the two names and date, shaded 32 cells and I know where the curved line goes. I just can’t see which other 11 cells need shading!

Any hints would be greatly appreciated!

I think you may be missing the ones which go above the highlighted cells and which run across the grid.

Thank you very much - I was over complicating things and trying to spell something thematic with my remaining 11 cells!
