Well, I've reached a complete dead end! I've got the names and date an a picture of the work on Google but can't fathom where to put in the grid. I've looked for letters that spell out the name of work or where it is or maybe the date but nada!

Some hints would be most welcome:-)

I was about to post something about the endgame being sloppy and indecipherable until I suddenly saw what was intended, and it isn't at all - in fact it's very clever and very precise. Kept this solver on his toes, Vismut. Many thanks for great and challenging entertainment.

I am nowhere near the endgame on this. I have a full grid and the extra letters but I am going round in ever-decreasing circles making sense of the instruction. A big shove in the right direction would be much appreciated.

You need to apply the instruction the clues alternately, so f... of first clue and l... of second etc. and then when you reach the end go back and do the reverse.

Cloverjo, the OT leader, well the name of the OT leader! has a connection to baskets, the rest involves anagramming. Rules as king is the definition.

39a - Famous 5 letter person from the Bible (famous for leading an exodus) around both a single letter "new" and a word in the clue anagrammed, so you need to make the word preceding it an indicator - definition is "possibly rules as kings"
