3d alone escapes me "Exalted record again to shock French (6)". I have EPA?E?, but nothing seems to fit, and I have checked repeatedly for errors. Am I missing something?

Peter, your letters are fine. It's a French word, so a bit unusual. If you reverse a common word for 'record again' (as we used to do with TV programmes, say) you'll probably see it quickly.

Thanks, Peter284. That was one of my last few entries yesterday, it had puzzled me for a bit. The word isn't in my Chambers, but a variation of it is.

3 down has the accent which we're instructed to ignore.

Thank you, Malone, for clarifying the parsing of 11 across. I realised what the answer is but I hadn't twigged the mercy = cor bit of the wordplay.
