Wil37, glad that was of use. I often forget about any special bits in the preamble, such as ignoring accents - not usually a problem unless it says'one answer is an abbreviation' and I am struggling to get a real word!

I cheated with 3 down by using an old English-French dictionary.

Alwayspuzzled, I might have done that if the variant of the word hadn't been in Chambers!
