So many high points...the pairs (1d, 5d) and (15,22)...the doubly Pauline (solutions and wordplay) 10 and 23...all the tricky misdirections. A stellar crossword!

5D wasn't his real name though, so at first I thought it was the name of a famous mathematical family instead.

An outstanding crossword! Very tough at first, found my way in through the SW corner, after first fearing I wouldn’t solve a single clue. FOI 16d, LOI 7d - a typo meant I had a wrong letter. COD 27a, very nice, fooled me for a long time. But so many others to choose from.

I forgot to mention the 18A is what I had to program for my first proper job! The development kit was enormous! Although the devkit for the second one was probably even larger (and amusingly, had TOOL written on the side of it in large letters).

Phew! I had to leave it unfinished last night and just came back. Being more awake, I finally realized what was going on in 12a and 6d, the latter being my LOI. FOI was 16d followed closely by 24d. I learned that word for a Scottish mountain from crosswords a long time ago. COD definitely 27a.
