Yes, CD, what I've got is probably right and I'm not looking for hints - I just have that feeling I'm missing something. Probably overthinking it!

I have the grid filled, and the fiddling about with letters (not giving too much away) but the 10-cell bit eludes me. Staring produces no string of 10 cells with any meaning. Are they contiguous? (The relevant website gives vast amounts of information, but not anything useful in terms of what I'm supposed to be doing.)

Excellent puzzle, thank you Vismut. Not a pastime/ hobby we’ve ever tried. Liked the way the missing letters fitted the group sequence. Everyday a schoolday. Only downside, absolutely cannot abide the 10 letter endgame.

Stumbled over the line, and a relatively quick end game for me with only 2-3 minutes of grid staring, which, after last week, is a huge relief. I think some of the answers having 3 unches is bordering on unfair, and those in the SW corner probably consumed 30% of my solve time, which was definitely hindered by initially spelling the ENTRY at 32a incorrectly.

No, hw7, I haven't, but I have spent a L-O-N-G time with Mr Google trying to see if a character (who appears contiguously) in a long-running wireless drama is involved in the practice in question. Mr G is silent on this subject, but a neighbour says he isn't. Back to the drawing board. Nice red herring though. A clue, perhaps?

Well, if you’ve got the overarching theme, try saying it with a stutter and see if that thematics thematic thematics.

is misnamed?

Luftmensch .. I think I agree (based on the webpages I’ve used) in that the numerical pattern corresponds with a 7-letter order (X-XX—-) rather than the 6-letter order (—YY—) derived from the extra letters .. is that what you mean?
