I don’t seem to have a clue what to do. I am guessing 3D and 18a are constellations. But if so, what am I not getting from the clues.
Help with 6a would give me some idea if my down answers are correct….

The thematic answers all have something in common, each of which has its own number. A search should reveal that these numbers are also assigned to the thematic entries in two separate lists. Getting the names helped me.

6 is a 4-letter word for a young horse around B(aron) A

Three of the down clues are double clues - giving two different numbers that refer to the same thematic entry.

Wow! What a struggle - I can't believe I finally have a full grid - but with several answers unparsed and numerous searches of Google to get the corresponding catalogue numbers.

A definite candidate for most difficult puzzle of the year IMHO.
