Thank you very much Gabriel, I see them both now.

It's odd that 9d uses a 3 letter abbreviation that is means both a word in the clue and the answer! - I don't think I've ever seen that before.

I just guessed at which is left and right but it looks like I was lucky.

I say 'looks like" because my 'earlier situation' doesn't seem to have much to do with the song - at least it's not part of the lyrics but, when I Googled it, it was followed by a word that is in the song.

I "completed " this yesterday, but still can't work out the 12 letter phrase. I know the song , but nothing seems to fit.
Could the phrase have been placed where 1Across is previously? Otherwise please put me out of my misery.

But not two words the same presumably? As then there would be no right way round?

Thank you, Bunty . If I understand correctly correctly, I'll have to swap my 2 grid halves over.

I'm feeling smug as, for the first time in my life, I got the two halves the right way round. Luck rather than judgement, obviously. I thought this was a delightful puzzle, meaty enough to fill the gap left by there being no Listener crossword this week.

Another super puzzle, but if the "earlier situation" is represented onomatopoeically (yes, I did check the spelling in the BRB) then I'm a little underwhelmed. Beats grid-staring though.

I take that back - apologies, Jaques. The earlier situation only works if the two sides are entered correctly - idiot.
