Yes I did attend the last Ladies match of the season. Before the start, I asked Pat Batt, our opener, what our bowling attack was to be.
“We have only two seamers playing today, and two spinners,” she told me.
“You don’t call them seameresses then” I replied.
“No, though funnily enough, both are seamstresses” she said. “Wil Soawitt was in trouble for picking the seam last week, at work that is, not with the umpires. The other, Ida Kneadle, specialises in cross-stitch and cross-seam.”
“As for spinning Jenny is our best option, and because the wicket is expected to take spin, Honor Turner is playing” she continued, “but all the bowlers will have to perform today.”
They certainly did and it was a comfortable victory.
