I'm even more confused now.

a) Is the "bloody fine" in row 4?

b) In column 5 I have CR?C - is this the thematic item?

PS I have them both ending with a C and both with R as the second letter.

Brendan, maybe our last posts crossed?

a. Yes
b. No, not thematic, no, not correct letters. I think you have got the CRI? answer in the wrong place - it's vertical, the thematic is the horizontal. The intersection has probably muddled things...

After the mess I made of the last thematic I'm probably the last person that should be giving hints but ....

A from the clue + 3 letter "study" + single letter "zero" + 2 letter "papers" - I did think this should be plural but maybe the "about" makes the singular okay.

Cheers Brendan…couldn’t see double meaning of secreting… better call it a day and start again tomorrow.

Well, I never did find a way in but an earlier post rather gave the end game away. After that it was a 5 minute fill.

Granama, I hadn't noticed (registered) that revealing post earlier. I think Brendan will take himself off to the naughty step!
