Many thanks for the entries from 10 setters. BASTILLE was of course chosen for the date, but I thought correctly that there would be plenty of scope in the many synonyms for prison.
I enjoyed the ingenious chess clue by bbm@26, even though no genuine player would use castle for rook, despite what the dictionaries say. There was clever wordplay by jono@18, bbm@21 and penda@25. There were original ideas for 'bae' by mathprof@6 and paul@9, but perhaps too specialist for the average cryptic crossword. 'Choreographed' was a nice anagram indicator by tyke@5 and the anagrams by chrise@3 and paul@10 had good natural surfaces. However, as so often, first place goes to mattrom@4 for her clever stir-fry combination:
