Anyone else stuck on the endgame? I have a more or less full grid and the message from the extra letters so I know more or less what's wanted but am at a loss on how to proceed. Nor do I quite see how to connect the 4 characters whoever they are.

Missing a few letters yet ...where are the misprints please? Ive only got 3 so far and they don't make any part of a region ?

Just about there. Quite tricky. Can anyone assist with 7d? My original answer ends with the same letter as the answer to 9d (not wishing to give anything away). It's an archaic form of a more common 3 letter word. Anyone confirm?

sounds like what i have ...initially i had ti r e as a synonym of sap but ...changing the letters gives the synonym for the more common 3 letter word like you say.

How does 29d work?

not sure, Bunty - one of those that stumped me. It's a 'key entry' though and if I have it right it morphs finally into a place name...

Bunty, the original 29d may have a drugs reference as the top letter, thinking about it. You're on the right track with the fourth item...

I have a full grid and two of the characters - perhaps the easiest to locate with Mr Google. But he is of no help with the other two, though I know where they must be lurking. Any ideas about where to find them in a reference book/site?

Is there an error in the clue to 7? I agree with others about what it must be, but the def is to a slightly different word (unless there is an obscure meaning of sap which C doesn't seem to acknowledge).
