I've got everything except the phrase along the bottom and the 13 letter attachment. Any hints please?

For 41a you need to look for a natural 'pest'

I got the bottom line by doing a wordfinder search for the first six letters (which is in Chambers) in then Googling to get the rest (which isn't). As for the attachment, look in the vicinity below 17 across, This is a bit vague but any more would be too much of a giveaway, I think.

look at the first line of the preamble for help with 41a ....

I assume you take out the doltish and anagram the remainder giving a Scottish word.. but I can’t find it anywhere using online look up. Any help please? Just about got all the rest and the ‘sad revelation’ always looked a clue so have the theme and attachment .

Aslac, my answer is in Chambers and Collins - so I'd expect it to be found easily enough online. I'm off to check...
