.... there's a Judean People's Front joke in there somewhere, but it's late and I'm tired:-)

After finishing last weeks brute this morning I was quite happy to face a much easier challenge, This fit the bill (no pun intended) very nicely. Al though I have a full grid, parsed every clue and identified the 8 thematics, I am at a loss as to what the "in name only" means. As my brain has been frazzled by Sabre I will leave it for now and see if a PDM comes tomorrow.

The puffin, famously, is not a member of the puffin family.

Nor, possibly surprisingly, is it the bird with the latin name puffinus puffinus.

Same thing here, re: thematics in name only, with respect to the theme.

A pleasant experience, particularly as some specimens of the thematic material were evident while I was sitting in the sunshine working towards discovering it. But perhaps the last three digits of the number would have been more appropriate for last week’s puzzle….😉

OK, I know it's probably too soon, but I'm again frustrated to be held up by the final stages of what is, in essence, boiling down to a wordsearch. So, I'll try to be a bit cryptic

Across I have ace footballer Rodney, and a colour
Down I have Buffy's mate, a word to describe Richard Branson, two words you might see in front of GREBE, and a possibly hyphenated (4-7) word which could describe a lemur. That gives me 43 highlighted cells and all but one of the required letters from the misprints inserted. Can anybody gently guide me as to where to place my letter "O"?

Ain't it always the way? Almost the very second I posted, it dawned on me where I would find the appropriate fossil fuel by changing a down entry to make one of the fuel's by-products. Apologies to all purists who will think I'm giving too much away.

Middle column.

Bonus points to you for the restraint in refraining from pointing out that Branson has been referred to in the past in print as being both parts of the thematic item.

Got there in the end. Don't wish to nitpick BUT...
unless I've missed something, doesn't showing the examples by replacing the eight letters make highlighting superfluous?
