Went through this pretty quickly, but got completely jammed in the SW quadrant. Finally figured out why... wrong answer elsewhere. Good fun though. Looking forward to hearing other reactions.

FOI was 8a. COD 20a. LOI 15d. A pair of identical double initial clues but no rhyming couplets that I could see.

Thanks to Everyman. I found this a quick solve, with some good clues. FOI 8; LOI/COD 19, also liked 16, 20 and 12. I also finished the SW quadrant last, but it wasn't a terribly long holdup. Solid puzzle, maybe a little easier than the norm, but not a standout IMO. I didn't notice a theme or rhyming pair. There is a remarkable feature common to the three longest solutions, but I can't be more specific because of potential spoilers.

alzy, since you mentioned it, there are three double initial solutions.

You're absolutely right geeker. It was staring me in the face. I had a feeling I'd missed something.

Agree. Good day. Sailed through with only a few head-scratching moments. FOI 8a. Yes - three double initial answers. Oops. I lied. Not yet finished. LOI will be 20a which I suspect may become COD but I need a hint. Not the best Everyman. 20a???

20a: it is a standard greeting in Hebrew. The first four letters mean labyrinth, plus two letter abbreviation for lieutenant, etc.

Seemingly a little slower than some of you this morning but got there in the end.

I think clues with the structure of 12ac are my favourite of all, so that’s my COD. There was one in the midweek Guardian a few weeks ago, I forget the exact clue but it included something relating to “post tea”, or “tea in post” and “armour.”

The answer was chain mail which broke down to cha in mail. Lovely.

I agree Richard, those types of clue are satisfying. The clue you mention was Picaroon…
Postal delivery of tea gets protection (5,4)
My experience was similar others’ today, not much to add.
