Strange one that, cross between a very chaste Paul and an Everyman. Nearly had to check what day it was.

FOI 22, COD Nothing really stood out, but I’m giving 14 an extra point for the subject matter.

Hi Pulmunen,

14d - Is beautiful:-)

Hi FrSteve,

I do love a nice 25a:-)

12d - 3 letters "date" (as in 'go out with') around/"boxes" a word in the clue.

You say it’s not a typical Paul but it couldn’t be more fruity! 😉

Enjoyed this, although I agree it felt more Everyman than Paul prize material, but indeed it does appear to be the full salad - just looked up 20d as a fruit and it looks amazing, like a cross between a lemon and a bunch of bananas if that’s not spoilerific. Seems to not be commonly followed by the word “fruit” but by another more descriptive word.

Hi Richard,

I'm totally confused - are you say that the answer to 20d is like "a cross between a lemon and a bunch of bananas" ?

Hi geeker and methi
Re 9a - I suppose this proves that it’s only well-known if you know it. All I can say is that I seem to have known about, and indeed enjoyed, this type of melon for years, if not decades. It’s a staple of most decent supermarkets and fruit stalls. It’s even part of Waitrose’s ‘Essential’ range (though that perhaps says more about Waitrose than about the fruit!)
Oddly though, I was wrong about the colour of the flesh. Late-night confusion with the cantaloupe which has a similar netted rind with orange flesh, whereas the galia’s flesh is in fact green. Mea culpa. And that’s enough about melons.

And sorry, mathi, for misspelling your moniker. I’m now thinking about curries, clearly.
