Hi Tony,

1a - Single letter "duck" + 4 letters "swans" (female ones) + 5 letter anagram/"flapping about" of "tercel mostly" - definition is "everyone knows it".

It's something that everyone knows, though they're not supposed to. It's built up in order from the first part of the clue (though I didn't like "tercel mostly flap about").

Just going in to wish everyone a good Sunday evening, or whatever suits your time zone; and to agree with everybody else, a very mixed bag today with some excellent clues (1a, 12a, 20a, 24a COD13d, 14d) and some horrible ones, either too easy or too complex to be satisfying (I still don't really understand 23a). I like Everyman's rhymes but it feels clunky to have two words (19a & 26a) with identical endings, in lettering and meaning.
FOI 6a, LOI 25a which I see is also agreeing with many others.
Have a good week all, thanks for all your help this weekend

What an odd Everyman, could not agree more with all the posts about a mix of good and terrible clues. Felt the urge to add a remark at the end of a long day. Liked 7d. 12a - what? See you all next week.

As I said earlier, it's a very loose defintion. It's geological.

Long time lurker, first post. Thanks Brendan and all for the helpful discussions.

Came here flummoxed by 23a but now I’m happy with the parsing, which I think is fairly constructed but the upper end for an Everyman. The &lit definition is a bit loose though!
