Never heard of the theme. I first thought the theme was related to May 1st labour day. My LOI 3d took a while, since I had the fifth letter in 13a wrong.

Yes, I should have read the clue in 13a more carefully. It makes sense.

Bogus’ has only set twice before, the last time in 2017. The central theme idea then was very similar to today’s, it’s 27,321 if you want to look it up (spoiler alert unless you’ve done today’s). Prior to that Bogus set a puzzle in 2016 (number 26,046) which again has the same central idea. It was revealed at the time that ‘Bogus’ was a collaboration between three regular Guardian setters, Puck, Arachne and Nutmeg. I suspect the same or similar today. ‘Pink organ’ has definitely been used more than once before by yesterday’s setter which might be a clue ;-)

Thanks Jono. I was wondering why the last two abbreviated letters in 27d are called the ‘pink organ’. Now I understand!

Still have a few more to go, but great so far. Loved 29a. Where do the last two letters of 19d come from, I must be missing something?

19d - You'll kick yourself Jono - last three letters are "raised hat":-)

Oh of course, I was looking at the middle four letters reversed which happen to mean the same thing! Thanks
