Well done, Jono, nice clue. Thanks to Paul for the challenge and the prizes, and to everyone for your votes.
Buddy, I was toying with a 'torte' clue. I would pronounce taught/tort/torte the same, but thought that the Scots pronunciation in particular would include the R. Chambers does show different pronunciations for each. I think many homophone clues are tongue-in-cheek, though.

Well done, jono, and thanks to those who gave me votes, especially icvotria's generous three.

Thanks for hosting and calculating, paul.

Malone of this site doesn't go in for clue writing but has often commented disapprovingly on homophones. The R sound can be a problem: several UK dialects sound it - a bit like the Americans.

Many thanks for the votes! Well hosted Paul, I did watch the clips and having spent a year in Dublin the 90s that was pretty much on the money. Cheers everyone, see you next weekend

I am surprised in these enlightened times that there is still room for homophonia...

haha Paul and Dorrien.

I agree with malone, probably because I can never do homophones!

Thanks for the google link Dorrien. Interesting to hear the British pronunciation but amazing to consider that someone took the time to pronounce just about every word in the dictionary in both "American" and "British" and put it on the web. Ah, the internet - the source of, and solution to, all of life's problems.
