Ok Having remastered the use of excel I may have found an easier way to present the results involving copying and pasting the results for the total column to the left, moving the name column one to the right, inserting a column with the numeration, then doing A-Z and am praying I’ve inputted the source figures correctly (apologies if I didn’t).

So with one vote we have: Buddy 3, Fiery 6, Prof 10, Icvotria 25
With 2 votes we have Dorrien 9, Jimmy 32, Spike 36 and 37.
With 3 votes we have Mattrom 26
With 4 votes we have Buddy 4, Mattrom 27 and 29, Jimmy 30, Spike 38
With 5 voes we have Jon 20

Just missing Bronze is Chris on 6 for 12

IN 3rd place we have Tyke 14 on 8 votes

In 2nd place we have Paul H 33 on 10 votes

This weeks winner is Jon 13 with 14 votes for his excellent;
“English breakfast with French darling? He’s got class! (7)”

Congrats Jon, here are some topical offerings, If you’re short on time make sure you don’t miss the first one.

Congrats jono and thank for hosting & clips Paul. Do we born with intelligent? So true. Thanks also to the voters for the votes.

I have a question about homophone clues, which I was reminded of by an entry this week equating taught/tort. We see this a lot in published puzzles (as well as with words ending in ER, so this week TEACHER/TEA-CHA would be an example, as in jimmyg's "Spooner's cat"). To these midwestern American ears, taught and tort do not sound alike (because of the R!). This is why I frequently have trouble with these sorts (saughts?) of clues (or so I tell myself).

So my question is: is this just a crossword convention that expands the list of homophones available to a setter, or is this the common pronunciation in some or all of the UK? If the latter, is TAUGHT pronounced with a R sound, or is TORT pronounced without it?

Your thorts appreciated.

Congrats jono - deserved! Thanks paul, and to everyone who voted for me (sorry, in this format I tend to lose track - it's rare that I have to remember more than one name!)
I was watching the clips, paul, up to when it said "where" when it meant "were"...

Bravo, Jono. My favorite. I particularly liked “He’s got class!” as the definition.

Thanks for the hosting, Paul. I will have to check out the clips later as I am still wrapped up with volleyball right now.

Buddy try this for size. Britsh v U.S in google pronounce.
I think that homophones should be close "enough" and can often raise a smile.
