I cannot make head or tail of 18 down. Clue:

"Places for well-mannered doctor, having a day out too"

I have got "b?s???s", assuming that I have got the intersecting clues right.

Could it be "bistros" ?

If so, could someone please explain the parsing ?

I could have looked at that for a month and still not have seen it !

And here was me thinking you have to read it with a Yorkshire accent - "in t'ending`".

Reluctant though you are to suggest it, I too have reached this same conclusion - it must alas be an error. I've puzzled over all the parsings put forward: none quite works. Cock-up not fiendish setting, I fear.

The blog is up on Times for the Times and neither the blogger nor any of the commenters have, so far, found a satisfactory parsing. It will be interesting to see if the editor steps in to explain or apologise for an error.
