I'm late to this and although I've got many of the answers ready to insert, I would appreciate a nudge on one of the critical edges to help me insert them (extra letter in the wordplay): Peanuts maybe go, in the end, in empty boxes (12, 2 words).

Def is 'Peanuts', which is a famous 5,7.

Hope I didn't make it too obvious. Always difficult to get the balance right. I found the puzzle not overly difficult - but the theme very obscure. No idea what the cryptic clue from the extra letters meant.

First word is a synonym of "jail" and the second an "old Norse warship" and this gives a "folk hero"
