ok, i sort of see how the across clues relate to 13a, but aren't there too many of them? also i can't see how the unsolved 21a could fit in. any pointers?

21a - the second syllable is the first letter of the second word in 13a.

Remember, all the syllables are in the exact order of the letters in 13a.

There are 11 letters in 13a. Try pronouncing them.

Well that was fun. FOI 5ac. LOI 6ac which was a new word to me (as was 19d). Got the theme and so 13a after about six acrosses which then helped solve the rest. COD 18ac

All done, good fun

Was going great guns, got the brilliant 13ac but have now ground to a resounding and frustrating halt.... would love a small steer for 18ac or 25ac. Thanks all, great forum as ever!

In 18 the schools are aquatic...
25 is also known as "The book of changes"

18a - It's actually just an anagram but you have to follow the instruction given at the very start - definition is "what'll diminish schools)

25a - Is a 7 letter word for "anxious" minus one letter/"having no time" - definition is a "Chinese manual"
