All filled and highlighted but a bit baffled by the groups of five clues bit. Anyone solved that part of the endgame?

No i was wondering about that too...going in groups of 5 doesn't seem to make any words for me?

The words cut across the groups of 5 (the first word is 8 letters long, e,g,)

In each group of 5 there is 1 unambiguous choice (the extra letter). For the other 4 there is a choice of 2 letters, and you have to pick the correct ones to make words,

Hi Buddy, it's the words that I'm struggling with. I can make a direction with the first 5 in clue order....and I think it has clicked. They aren't all simply 5 letter words are they? They link together to make longer ones.

No, the words/phrases are 8, 7, (9,5,2), 6 and 8.

Once I realised that the letters are in order (having been distracted by the 'in no special order) and I wasn't looking for 7*5 letter words it fell into place. Just one remaining ? for 6a. I know what the required letter is but how does it fit with (I assume) 'tenor'?

assume "church" is the extra as i need H

Hi Bunty, if you change the g for n in 3d that should help. The drink is French and includes cassis.
The T is wrong in 16a.
