Finally, thanks for hosting, buddy. Another multi-definition word.

A multiple thank you to everyone for your votes - all much appreciated. Thanks too to Buddy for an interesting word to clue and my prizes. Maths (or math) was my favourite subject at school, when a slide rule was the computer. Mostly over my head now, unfortunately. My uni lecturers were quite clean-cut in comparison, even though it was the "hairy" 60's.
I hope Spike's OK, he hasn't posted this week (not that it's compulsory :)
