Hi roof
It took ages for me to see the definition in 10,17 too. If you square what come after "square", what's one less?
"buttons up" is a containment indicator
1a read backwards is bath hot dealer - def "maybe"
12 it's the other meaning of "see" - COD, along with 27a
3d some might smoke the "pot"

On the zoom call Paul quite clearly not aware that the enumeration of 10,17 had anything to do with the square. Happy coincidence is all ;)

It's taken me a long time but has been most enjoyable.
I put in the wrong sound for 3d which caused me a few problems in the top left corner.
I needed to google 5/22. History was my worst subject.
I haven't really got a COD as so many were excellently constructed.
However, in no particular order, my favourites were 7d, 14/16, 26, 19 and 20.

Thanks Chrise and everyone else who helped me

I've finished. Like Rossim I had the wrong sound in 3D. I had got 3d myself, but that just presented me with two answers with H in the middle.

See you all next week.

Do you mean 4d rather than 3d? I was surprised that it was a valid spelling for the bread.

It's the American spelling of the bread.

Phew! Finally got 22/5 - someone that I had never heard of, but that's one of the great things about crosswords. Educayshunal.

Hi Docrum,

I totally agree. I've always enjoyed the 'Princes in the Tower' story and this clue afforded the opportunity to read up on it in much more detail.
