This was a struggle. LOI will be 8d. I have c_t_n_a & can't see a solution. Anyone help me to see it?

I had already got 26ac, which may be my COD. I thought I'd exhausted all the possible anagrams for 2d, but no, so I've now got that. But not much else for the north west corner.
My answer for 8d was wrong as I suspected. I have another answer, which is an Italian city, but I can't parse it. I also can't parse 13ac. Are my crossers right? I have C?A?D?N?
Please can I have a hint for 10,17, then maybe I can put the southwest corner to bed.

8d is in Sicily. Slang for "isn't" around A(rea) after outside of Corsica.
13 is "put on" inside (buttons up) "hold".
10,17 is an anagram. I've never seen a definition like it before!

I’m with you Abi - 20d was the one that elicited an audible guffaw. Rather neat.

Mostly too frustrating to be enjoyable today. I was stuck with my first couple of answers for ages before getting hints on here that helped to get going and eventually complete most of it. Thanks to all hinters above.
Still not convinced of a a few of my answers so will know from whether the big green tick appears if they are correct or not (using the app)...

Stuck on 18d and 28a so would appreciate some hints please.

I do enjoy this forum! Interesting to hear about people who solve with others. None of my family or friends are into cryptics so this is as close as I get to that experience.

10,17c I've got the anagram, though I've no idea what the definition is.

I think my answer for 13ac is right, though I can't see the buttons up.

Only three left now,1ac, 12ac and 3d, though I'm not sure of my answers to 28 and 29ac, but they'll do. I'll be talking to my friend in Sheffield tomorrow. It is a good way to keep in touch.

As usual any hints for my last three above gratefully received.

I had trouble with both those clues, but I think what I've got is correct. See what you think?

18d A word for race without the last letter followed by a three letter number, meaning correct as a verb.
28ac a double definition, though an off-key one for foolish. Best of luck.

I do the crossword on my own, but check it with my friend by phone on Sunday. She's usually much better than me, so I'm grateful to the Forum for upping my game. Just occasionally I get one she hasn't.

Typical - just went back to the Prize and 18d and 28a jumped out at me!! - funny how answers can suddenly become obvious on a revisit.

...and the big green tuck appeared. Yay!
