I totally agree Lumen - no small feat to have a 48 letter message so well placed in a puzzle.

Chalicea here: apologies that this was rather easy for some, especially when several are taking a week off because of the Listener numerical, and I'm really happy that you enjoyed it. Indeed, fitting in the message was a challenge and led to a grid that wasn't symmetrical and some unching errors but none of you have complained about that. There's a fairly tough Vismut EV this week if you still need a challenge.

No need to apologise ...there have been some pretty tough IQs lately so this was most welcome. I always like your puzzles...

Thanks Chalicea... I really enjoyed this, as I have all of your puzzles. I had a moment where I had the M and the Law and (having not properly counted) started looking for an observation about “buttered side down” :D

Hi Chalicea, I never feel 'disappointed' by more straightforward or shorter solves, I enjoy all IQs and have PDMs and a sense of achievement in solving all. Thank you.

Muraria, I agree. I never feel short changed when I solve an IQ or Listener in reasonably short order. In fact it encourages me to believe I'm getting better. (:o)

PS Thanks Chalicea.

Good to hear from you Chalicea, and thanks for dropping in. I certainly didn't wish to imply disappointment with the puzzle in my earlier post, and apologies if I conveyed that impression. I never complain when a puzzle is relatively easy, especially when it's as well constructed and enjoyable as this one.

I would have preferred to see this puzzle when I wasn't taking a week off due to the Listener being a numerical, but that's hardly the fault of the setter or editor - and in any case I can't reasonably expect either of them to schedule puzzles to suit me!

I would like to add my voice to the others. I finish about 1 in 4 IQ and so find that a well constructed straightforward puzzle is very welcome! It still took me the best part of 2 hours- which many people would see as puzzling in itself to devote that length of time to an activity that goes into the recycle bin at the end.
