Thanks to loge for giving me a nudge. I gave up last night looking for 3 letters for the plot to go with the 4 letters for the poet. I can now start looking for 7 letters. I think I've found them already!

Short of some letters for the poem..

Xwordfan, there are typos in your first three. Programmers write **** so are ******, possessing/containing million + something else.

I have one typo not assigned but assume it in 42a Jock's pet...
I could change Jock but still don't get the parsing.
Happily, knew the poem which made life easier.

Granama1, change the middle letter of “pet”

Oh, and 31a requires a delve in Chambers, I missed it first time but you have the right chap.

Ah, thanks Quisling, I missed the change in the previous clue. Still not sure I follow the parsing though. I have a word that can mean head or intelligence.
