Phew!! Any thoughts of a gentle workout following this week's monster of a Listener were quickly dispelled after my first read through of the preamble and clues.

I found trying to identify the 27 misprints was about as difficult as solving the clues themselves - even after I'd identified the poem and so knew what letters I was looking for!

There are still a few I can't parse but the only one that's driving me mad is....

38d - Whistles to Jock, not loudly, and scatters seeds

I thought that if I added an F (loudly) back into to my answer it would give a word meaning "whistles to Jock" but it doesn't - where am I going wrong?🥵

PS - Google was absolutely useless in identifying the poem and I had to resort to Edge - did anyone else have problems finding the work online even after correctly inputting the correct first line?

PPS - I can see the poet's surname in the completed grid but it doesn't seem to relate to anything around it - is this just a coincidence or am I missing something obvious?

I went down that path for a while too, Brendan. The highlighting instruction is easy to misinterpret: it should perhaps read "they must also highlight 7 other cells which cryptically represent the plot, and IN ADDITION highlight the author's name. The 7 cells are in a different place to the name.

I found the quote on the Goodreads site via Google from just the first 4 words, and several links with the complete line.

Okay, thanks Loge - I had completely misread the preamble and hadn't even noticed the reference to the poet's name!!

Hi Bunty,

I've just put "poem" followed by the first line into Google and it did come up - but, when I put "poem first line" followed by the first line it doesn't appear ....at all!!

I've just been reading some of her other poems and they really are quite brilliant.

Thanks to Skylark for an excellent puzzle and for introducing to me to this wonderful poet:-)

I am finished except for the word to change. I was thinking it would be 12down but can't make it work. Could someone give a hint, please?
