Gitto - think it’s just an example of the revised word giving an odd clue surface

Thank goodness for that!! I am truly struggling to make any meaningful headway on this one, and if some of my answers were wrong I might as well give up.

Almost there. Beaten by one thematic. I shan't give its clue number at this early juncture. Hints may appear later!

Only other issue I have is with the first letter to be corrected. I have "S" but that isn't correct, and I can't see where the one I need is hiding in the clue.

I actually quite enjoyed this, but agree that some of it was tortuous - certainly not as elegant as last week.

Finished all except 26d which I know is thematic. Please help!

26 is thematic. The def is transfers in the sense of a temporary transfer to another position. The first 6 letters have to be reduced to a single letter.

Ken - in the first clue, the def’n is the last two words and the changed letter is in the penultimate word

No, I did not mean to imply they are all anagrams, and this is not. But the reading of the revised clue does not make sense, whereas for the similar 23 it does.

Got it after posting! Measure relates to time. Stock is stem. Def is first word.

Thanks, candledave. I was taking the "F" in the solution from the wrong place - I had considered the penultimate word and got fixated on an eel! So easy to become blinkered with these buggers.
