Morning all,
Another solid Everyman I thought, continuing a good streak. The 225 blog this morning is a bit harsh on last week’s I thought, we all were rather complementary if I recall.
Guessing that the central clues would be rhyming helped. I rather hoped the two longer across clues would be also, but not today.
I also had to work at the Spoonerism. It’s slightly unusual in that you have to take the end of the first word to the beginning, not simply swap the beginnings of each word (if that makes any sense).
My only niggle was ‘little’ as the same device in both 25 and 27a, and that the answer to one clue is used as part of the definition in another clue, but hey, those are tiny points.
I had the same parsing for 27a mentioned below.

Hello everyone. Great Everyman. Struggled with a few in an enjoyable way. Quite a few I just didn't see but should have done (8d duh). FoI 12a, LoI 5a because of this failing. CoD is 18a which i thought was brilliant. If you see it or have come acoss the scrambling of the authors name before then its probably easy. If you don't get it at first (yours truly) then its a lovely misdirection. Enjoyed the postings on 27a which helped me escape from my empty SE corner. Have a good day.

Oh and I thought the spoonerism was a good one but not quite right as noted.

Morning everyone. Really enjoyed this, but completely stumped by 18a! If all my crossers are correct, there seems to be only one word, but I can't relate that to the clue in any way. I have A-A-R-M-A-I-

Hi Julesvern
For 18a it’s a description of how the author’s name relates to the last two words.

Thanks Simonh! I’d just been scratching my head trying to parse that one, and at last became obvious

Ah, thanks so much Simon - that is such a brilliant clue! It was maddening to not be able to see it!

Hi, another newbie here

I also struggled with 27a and 18a, so found the discussion here very helpful, thank you

I didn't help myself by putting an incorrect answer into 19d which just about worked , but meant I missed the more obvious Correct answer :)
