'Éclair' definitely counts!
End game completed. While not in the difficult category I rather enjoyed this and it was nice to have a topic that I know a bit about. It took a little while to realise that what I was looking for was roughly accurate.

I enjoy finding these delightful definitions in Chambers. I too spotted the one for 41a granama and had a chuckle. Another I’ve found which made me laugh, not least because I have one, is...

tweenager - A child who, although not yet a teenager, has already developed an interest in fashion, pop music, and exasperating his or her parents

Ixion, I did notice that the items were placed with some relation to their actual locations, but that only partly makes up for not using the obvious choice. I suppose that would have crammed all the thematic items into one part of the puzzle though.

Granama, I saw the humorous definition for 41. I had no idea Chambers placed Easter eggs in its book.

Pleasant solve - Reminds me how 'more equals less' - 'EACH clue contains a misprint in the DEFINITION' ... is so much easier than 'SOME clues contain a misprint' ...

Along with the geographical element in the final grid, it is also a pangram. Anent the use of rivers, I remember reading in a history of the HBC that trappers traversing Canada from the Bay to the Pacific and back walked no more than 30 miles in total. All the rest was by boat on rivers and lakes.
