I was in error regarding the odd plural because I had the entry incorrect - apologies if I've wasted anyone's time. I'm still bothered by the "connecting" word - if it appears I can't see where. As far as I can see the 5,5 instruction has to be obeyed only once.

Cockie, I think the 'connecting' word is simply a 'say what you see' thing and is therefore implied rather than present.

And the items are in the wrong order for the connecting word to be used in this grid.

Luftmensch, but aren't they the right way round once 'changed in the grid to identify a second work'?

So..... one of the two replacements is shorter than the original. What happens to the extra letter?

Phil535 I assume nothing happens with the extra letter. You just ignore it when reading 2nd work.

I’m struggling with the final change to reveal the creator of the 2nd work. I’m pretty sure I’ve got the instruction and the location of the change but it’s leaving invalid crossing words. Can anyone shed any light?

Ignore that. Mrs grunos has spotted the correct location :)

Phil535's question is what I was referring to when I mentioned the inaccurate plural at the start of the thread. I guess we do ignore the remaining S, but it's a shame the original and replacement word aren't of the same length. Not that this detracts from the enjoyment of this nice puzzle.

Agreed, that was the one awkward part of the puzzle.
