Hi Mob,

10a Is a bit tricky and I'm not 100% certain I've parsed it correctly but I think it's - first 2 letters "listen" + I (from the clue) + 4 letters for "get votes" + 2 letter "listen" but different to the first 'listen' - definition is "masses" as in 'the rabble'.

Hi Mob, 10a is a somewhat derogatory term for the ‘masses’. Each ‘listen’ gives a different two letter expression at either end

10a: two letter interjection for listen + i + four letters for get votes + another two letter interjection for listen. Means masses or people.

Ah thanks Jono, it all becomes so clear. That put me on a run and now I’m just stuck on 26a. I’ve got an answer but I can’t parse it and besides, it doesn’t have a ‘U’ fir uranium in it.

26a: If you remove U from the answer in 26a, it means gold coloured.

Thanks for that. Sheltered life - never heard of that for cocaine!

A bit of a late start today but have now completed it although wondered if I had done it 'a la Gielgud' as could not parse a number of answers. Thanks to the Forum I could now 'show my workings' if required.

Perhaps my geography is completely wrong but shouldn't clue 1d be Belgium instead of France?
