A good response this week with 32 clues from 14 setters.
The thing with these smaller answers is to avoid the write-in.
Of course even a write-in can be a perfectly good clue in terms of surface, wordplay and definition but it would have to have something special to win here, maybe humour or topicality.
Applying this criteria - which was not straightforward to apply (knowing the answer !) left a rather long shortlist; -
paul #6
buddy #24
jono #10
faitom #12
tyke #13
mathspro #23 and #25
atisto #17
paulharb #16 and #21
pedagog #39
mattrom #25 and #27 and
les #26
Really difficult to pick any out however paul's #6 made we smile but just missed the podium.
In bronze I had Les #26, topical and nice use of "terminal"
silver for mattrom #27 with the clever "key" device
GOLD to buddy #24 -
Made a living supplying tackle (4)
Tough for a hidden to prevail but this does what all good clues do - it hides the answer in plain sight by the inspired use of the verbal def.
Thank you all for playing in a most enjoyable contest.
