Thanks Bunty, I've come across a few more 'normal' clues so they're going to be my starting point:-)

Can I get parsings for 2d and 31a and check that the unchecked penultimate letters are L and A respectively?

Also the clashes can be represented by Greek letters but the preamble says "the same.....symbol" - is this the letter in the English alphabet representing the shape of "The Queen of the North"?

Brendan, I think 2 down is a 6-letter word meaning "studded" minus its first letter - the answer is also a common nickname for people called Clarke. The penultimate unchecked letter is a B. I had an L for a while but it won't parse that way

31 across - key on computer + Biblical floating vessel minus final letter and yes, the penultimate unchecked letter is A.

Good point about the clash resolutions. I put in the Greek letters but on reflection "the same symbol" suggests the English letter.

I think I'm correct with 2 down though. Having an L as the fourth letter works for the def but the wordplay would surely lead to an unaccounted for B?
