22d - wanting is the definition. Six letter word for to goad minus last letter round abbreviation for centre-forward

Candledave, the very last word in the clue defines the five-letter answer (the four letter 'fare' has the T from taramasalata inserted).

Buddy, I have received a complaint that you gave answers rather than hints.

Perhaps in future it would be better to start off by just giving hints.

I prefer hints for all the thematic puzzles, but don't feel it's compulsory! We all have different views - I give answers to some prize puzzles, other Forum members prefer to give only hints.

One thing I would add is that I never look at a thread if I don't want to come across answers, preferring not to take the chance.
