OK, see it now, inside the clue, then reversed.

I’m also finding this one hard going. Some very devious parsing, not to mention some very dubious letter-counts (particularly 42a and 28d, which I think should be 3-3 and 6,4-4 respectively).

I have just one to get: 54a. Changing latest film in our name (2,3,4). The letters I have are O - / T - E / - U - N. It looks like ON THE TURN, but can anyone explain it please?

our n(ame) on the outside
et could be the film, but that leaves "nth", which is difficult to equate with "latest"

Thanks Malone. Since when has NTH meant “latest”? Am I missing something here?

Nth can be the latest in a long series of events. As in “this is the nth time I’ve told you to tidy your room!”

TheMadWoman... my Oxford Dictionary of English says for 'nth' - denoting an unspecified item or instance in a series, typically the last or latest in a long series.

I agree that there's some absolute stinkers this week!

34d for example:

Reportedly more than one can shed or forfeit rank. (4,5)

L _ S _ / C _ S _ E

The only thing I can make fit is LOSE CASTE, which could mean 'forfeit rank', but I don't see the rest of it at all.

Could someone please explain (or correct)?

This was discussed earlier, but I can't track it down right now.
Lose sounds like Loos, cans, toilets and Caste sounds like Cast, shed.
