Sunray, small world! That's fun to hear.
I'm in London but did visit your city once over twenty years ago. I worked at the Schubert Theatre, is that still there!

Got my mag today and got right to it. Mixed emotions about this one. Some great clues, but some weak ones as well. Didn't care for 6a or 16a. The answer seemed obvious in 16a, but I don't think the wordplay was right. Not technically in the entire phrase "Florida or California," so perhaps it means park in Florida as part of the definition, but no, the in has to signify a hidden word.

14a was very Listener though.

Ginge, that meaning of "skunk" is not at all uncommon over here.

mathprof: I think it does mean in a park in Florida, and the answer isn't hidden, it's just or and CA for California.

That was a lot of fun. It 's difficult to see 31d now without thinking of the name given by Saul to explain away his client's performance art - the infamous 'squat cob.....'

Thanks Syzygy

lumen,
Schubert Theater is now called CIBC Theater.
It is part of Broadway in Chicago.
