Almost finished this week without cheating, but needed help for words unknown to me (penumbrae, elemi, heirophant).
This one has me stumped:

53a Basic soldier, endlessly in two minds, stops hunting target (11)

Preparatory, basic.

Para - soldier
Tor(n), in two minds (endlessly =lose the last letter), inside

Prey, hunting target.

Pre para tor y.

Well done, malone - I found the word, but only the PARA!

sb, do you think you could use question marks instead of dashes for unknowns, please? Easier to read, and will past directly into wordsearches.

I had inserted "preparatory" but hadn't fully grasped the parsing, so that's helped. However, there's still one I can't fully see and that's
51 Down - "Stick close to housemate in block". Is this BEAR? (house-
mate being "E" as in bridge inside of BAR, perhaps?).

as a verb, to bar is to block

I knew this ChrisE, but am trying to clarify the "housemate" part.
