No, EF, forget about music for this one.

Not musical, eugenfraxby.
Not the obvious word for a group of them, either - and according to Chambers the word we're to highlight is a singular specimen and only becomes the group with a much longer word added to it (but I'm no expert, so who knows...).

...by the way, it's shown under a related word (etymology) there's no entry as such (I'm relying on wiki for the rest).

I am 100% certain that my grid is correctly altered and highlighted, which certainty is fortified by your explanation. DrXX

But even writing the four letters spaced apart, no hint of the phrase.

Which would be a bit naff if I were a submitter.

24 Double definition.

26 D In the clue

37 'Storm' is the definition. There's a common word for 'down', sad, and the usual 'river' with the usual abbreviation for 'stone' inside.

Simond9nx, I should have said, Chambers confirms the validity of the 'dissipates' reference.

I’ve been grid staring for some time. Like Eugenfraxby I was looking for the latter word of a falsetto musical group, so thanks for steering me away from that. Now looking for a group (of sorts) of the theme thanks to Drxx’s hints. All I can come up with is changing the first letter of 32 to the thematic letter... the first 4 letters then giving a very tenuous link to a ‘group’ of the theme and a three word theme whose first two words I cannot anagram to link to the title. The resulting change to 32 is not actually in Chambers but at least describes how I feel about continuing with the grid stare!

Would some kind soul point me to the right quadrant for the grid stare. Think I’ll go for a run in the rain before I recommence that.

Thank you woodlouse. Found it! I can enjoy my run now :-)

I’d had those two crossing entries down as strong candidates earlier, but hadn’t spotted the ‘group’. Now to sort out the title
