Where is the defn for the unclued 28a please?

The ten don't really seem to "be of a kind" unless i am missing something.

Why the title?

Kirky, the unclued entries are definitely of a kind - I got that from putting something in front of the title.

I haven't git the 28 definition... yet (I hope!)

Kirky, I think the definition you seek may be found in 18 - M

On second thoughts I may be wrong - the word I had in mind belongs to the clue - apologies - M

I've looked everywhere for a def for 28a and the best I can come up with is 'down' from 'cut down' in 8d ('down [3] a bank of sand thrown up by the sea' - it's an alt spelling of 'dune'). This gives a different entry to the one that's suggested by 'do' (I agree - 'do' is required for the def at 18a). All the same, I prefer the 'do' option - I just can't find a def for it in any of the other clues.
As it is, I don't like the 'down' option - it isn't strictly 'extra' because the clue makes sense with it or without it (then again, I think there's a word in 26a that should be 'extra' but is being used in the sense of, 'creating' as part of the surface). Also, I don't think the def is precise enough.

Hope someone comes up with a better option - it's too messy as it is (but I think a couple of Pabulum's recent efforts have been messy).

Like others I can't see where the missing word is for 28 across. Just about to go through the clues again for the nth time.

Agree with drxx that 'down' is likely it. Looking at the dictionaries linked from onelook.com also gives down as "A tract of poor, sandy, undulating or hilly land near the sea" and gives "bottomland" as a synonym. Anyway, there can't be too much doubt as to the intended entry at 28A and finding the def is not needed to complete the grid, so I am going to get on with my day!

But Buddy there are two viable entries at 28, so finding the definition is vital!

The only other viable entry I see anagrams to a plural which would be inconsistent with the rest of the theme words, it seems to me. But maybe I am not seeing what you're seeing.
