Almost done, theme was fun, however stuck on the bottom right hand corner. For 22ac (12 fibre) I have --R-N- 22d (Beautiful second cake
without filling, almost delightful) I have --E-I-
Any hints gratefully received.

Sunday solving as usual. Rattled through the first 75%. Then found it tougher. Like freddycat I don't understand 22a either. And should I know 9a because I don't think I've ever heard of them/it?

For 22a, once you have the answer to 12, then think of an alternative meaning (nothing to do with colour) that also means strand.
For 22d, defn is ‘beautiful’, one letter for ‘second’, 2 letters empty ‘cake’ and a word for ‘delightful’ minus its last letter (this word in full could arguably be on theme, though I doubt this was intended)
