Whoa! Thanks so much for the votes, mattrom, buddy, dorrien, mathprof, and faiton, for the mentions, rosalind and chrise, and for officiating and the prize (was there really such a time?), paulh. These challenges are ever more enjoyable; there are often too many likes to list! Till next week...

Is anyone else having problems with this site? Very often there's no captcha to check, and when it does appear nothing happens when it's checked. I've been trying to post for at least half an hour. This has happened on various devices and in different places.

Make that an hour...

and a half...

Two hours. Now when I check "I'm not a robot" the circle spins for a while and a box appears saying "Cannot contact reCAPTCHA".

Well done, Aristo (and Buddy - the consolation is that you get to enter next week)
Thanks to Jono, Aristo and Granama for your mentions, and to our host, Paulh. I enjoyed the clips - such a clean-cut Buddy. I agree with Ros, it looks like life on another planet now.

Apologies for the belated reply, Jono. DBE = definition by example. Churchwarden, say, isn't a synonym of 'pipe', but an example of one. Does anyone have any thoughts as to whether these require an indication of that in the clue?

To think that if mathprof had named his dog aristophanes, I might have won.

I would think the name Aristophanes would be more appropriate for a pet bird. (Frog?) I did consider naming my cat Schrodinger, but apparently it’s been done. But the Buddy Holly music has inspired me to feel favorably towards all things Buddy now.

Congrats Aristo and bad luck Buddy

Aristo I have no problems with posting. I just check the l am not a robot box.

@ Mattrom and Jono DBE has always been an issue on this site. However churchwarden is in my Chambers as a def for pipe therefore ok without a qualifier.
If you were cluing "playwright " then Aristophanes with a qualifier (perhaps, maybe. Eg etc) would be required.

dorrien: Sometimes the I'm not a robot box isn't there; add post is right under the message box.
I saw that you live on Lake Superior in the summer. Several years ago I thought about buying a summer house there, on the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Well done Aristo and thanks to paulh for hosting.

Appreciate the vote from jono and mentions from mattrom & granama.

Aristo your captcha may be linked to your connection, do you have a normal broadband or is it limited? I am currently using a satellite link which has a 0,7s latency time, I usually have to check the not a bot link 3 or 4 times before it is accepted. That never happens when I have my normal connection.
