Thanks. I was sure there was an anagram hidden in there somewhere but darned if I could see it!

Struggling with bottom left.
43d Voyager’s home, having visited part of moon at end of tour (7)

Mariner, Voyager, space shuttle stuff. Mare, moon, with 'in', home and the R from the end of 'tour'.

Mmmm - not at all convinced by that malone. To start with, Mariner and Voyager were quite different programs, then MARE isn't "moon", but the "seas" on the moon.

Ah - it says "part of moon", so that bit's OK. Voyager and Mariner are different, though - compiler error!

ChrisE, I was rushing earlier! I could remember some stuff about Mare, sea, and the Moon having various ones - but in no great detail. I thought the hasty version might do.

ChrisE, sorry I wasn't specific enough with the Moon bit. I don't think it matters about the different programs - I've read two or three things which say ' Mariner was a program ... adapted from the Voyager program' and 'Mariner was allocated to the Voyager and re-designated Voyager' and so on.

Mariner probes were targeted mainly at Mars, also Venus and Mercury; Voyager were targeted at the outer planets - Jupier, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune (and then out of the Solar System).

Thanks for that, ChrisE. I was taking it on a much simpler, literal level - the clue says 'Voyager's...' and Mariners were redesignated Voyagers , so I felt it was synonymous enough for a clue.
