Welcome to our weekend competition to compose a cryptic clue, to be judged by your fellow contestants.

You may enter as many clues as you like and everyone is welcome, particularly new entrants.
Feel free to explain your clue, if you think it will help, or to ask another poster to parse a clue.

Clues should be posted by 12 noon (UK time) on Sunday August 30th when voting opens.
Voting closes at 9pm (UK time) the same day.

Entrants should vote for their favourite clue by indicating both the entrant's name and post number.
The entry with the most votes wins and its composer sets next week's competition.

The setter has the deciding vote in the event of a tie.
He or she will declare the winner and award an online prize.

The winner may change the rules or experiment with an alternative format for the following week.

This weks challenge is intended to allow me to post a favourite as a prize:
TIPPERARY (9)

Good luck!

It's a long way for Mrs. Gore to meet a broken-up Ray. (9)

Tipper Gore is the wife of one-time U.S. vice-president Al Gore. She earned some notoriety by using the position of her husband to crusade against "bad influences" in popular music. A fairly well-known name in the U.S.

Edit:

It's a long way for Mrs. Gore to meet a distraught Ray. (9)

(Makes the anagram a little less obvious.)
