I agree, brendan - and it can be annoying if you haven't got the 1st letter to help the search (but this one isn't so bad).

Hi Drxx,

I have the answer but only after I got the last two letters - there aren't many 4 letter words with that ending.

I remember when 1d "corrected" the child's spelling of 38a - the press really crucified him.

I did it that way, too - got the answer and then worked out the wordplay (there's got to be something wrong with clues like that!).
